You will soon come to know that there are many off shoots of Kodi like Kodi from Kodi and Kodi from TVAddons and even the same addons by other 2nd or 3rd party versions, I am a purist and only use the ones from the genuine source/author. TVAddons now has a version of Kodi called TVMC that comes preconfigured with some of the more popular addons. There are also apps that can save your XBMC/Kodi settings as well. You can save your user's settings file and move it over to a new install. Kodi in it's pure form is bare bones, just the repository from is included.

If you install the addon the repostories gets installed automatically. Once you have the Fusion source, install TVAddons's Addon Installer, from there you can install most of the popular addons/repositories. On the note of transferring settings, is there like a download available the has all the popular add ons for kodi? So on new Xbmc it has some add ons that let's me watch some stuff but I see its limited. Fusion(aka XBMCHub or TVAddons) was one of the first original sources, there are others like xFinity, Superpro, MetalKettle, Shadow etc. Otherwise you would have to download individual repositories or addons onto an USB drive to install them manually.
